About Me
As a Registered Dietitian (RD) I have worked in a variety of different settings over my career, in acute care, a community health centre, public health and as an educator. I value role that someone's culture, traditions, values and personal lifestyle can all affect their nutrition health. I am actively involved in my community and use my creative side to support people whenever I can.
Being an RD has allowed me to support people through their health journey in many different ways and working in different sectors of the health care field has given me insight into other aspects of healthcare that I may not have realized if I had only worked in one setting. I have well developed leadership skills and a passion for quality improvement through a variety of projects I have worked on. One of my key projects involved ensuring equitable access to dietitian assessment for acute care patients through standardized nutrition risk screening for all new admissions.
I love working on a team and enjoy working with others who share a passion for caring. This helps to achieve the best patient care possible. I am reflective and recognize how important it is to be aware of how my own reactions may affect how I practice (Landy et al., 2016). Feeling respected and ensuring it is reciprocated to others is essential to me. Showing compassion towards my colleagues, patients and peers makes me relatable and easy to talk to. Above all else, I seek to always be learning and adapting to the ever-changing world we live in. Using a reflexivity in action approach to health promotion and nutrition practice has guided me throughout my career (Alexander et al., 2020). I think big and am driven by a desire to learn more and constantly look for ways to do a better job.
